Robert Michael acquired a large Dark Green Tourmaline crystal (Elbaite) from the Batalha Mine located near the town of Salgadinho in the state of Paraiba, Brazil.  The intense green color is caused by the presence of chromium and vanadium.  As is typical with Tourmalines, there was a significant number of tiny fractures in the crystal, so Robert cut the cleanest portion of the crystal into three pieces with the intent of making a matched Pendant and Earrings set.  He then faceted the largest piece into this 9x7mm pear-shaped gemstone, weighing 1.7 carats.  Next he faceted the two 6x4mm pear-shaped gemstones, each weighing .5 carats each.  Robert set the three gems in 14kt White Gold Pendant and Post Earrings.   The Pendant includes one 2.5mm SI Diamond accent gem.

Tourmaline is one of the October Birthstones.
