Product Description
According to the Gemology Institute of America (GIA), Tanzanite is found in just one place on earth, in the Merelani Hills near the majestic Mount Kilimanjaro. Tiffany & Co named this blue-violet variety of zoisite in honor of the country of Tanzania, where it was first unearthed in 1967. Because the crystals show different colors depending on the viewing direction, cutters can fashion gems with a range of color from violetish blue to bluish violet depending on how much weight they want to retain from the rough. Technically, the unique color is caused by small amounts of Vanadium within these crystals.
Robert Michael acquired this 5.02 carat, 10mm round Tanzanite gem and set it in a 14kt White Gold Pendant. This is another beautifully faceted gem. The display chain is not included.
Tanzanite is now considered one of the December Birthstones.
